Lashkar-e-Taiba militant arrested from Mumbai airport

Saleem Khan who is being suspected of being an LeT operative has been arrested at the Mumbai airport in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), news agencies reported.

Saleem is an accused in a case and faces the charge of providing money to alleged trained ISI agent Aftab Ali, who was arrested from Faizabad district in May.

Intelligence agencies at Mumbai global airport pulled him aside for questioning after a lookout notice was issued against Salim.

In Lucknow, Inspector General of UP ATS Aseem Arun said that after the arrest of ISI agent Aftab from Faizabad on May 3, 2017, the ATS had come to know that Salim Khan used to pass on directions to him and also send him money from overseas.

This arrest is followed by a Lashkar-e-Taiba module busted by Jammu and Kashmir police in which the cops arrested two people.

According to reports, Khan was travelling to India from the UAE, when he was following which he was detained at the Mumbai Airport. Aftab was also keeping a movement of troops in Uttar Pradesh.

The UP ATS will seek his custody for questioning in the Rampur attack and alleged involvement in severeal other anti-national activities under their jurisdiction, he said.

Earlier, two terrorists nabbed for the 2008 attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur had told police that Khan had acquired terror training in a terrorist camp in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan.

While being overseas, he had been in contact with Aftab and gave instructions to him about terror activities and funding, the official said.

"Having obtained a Pakistani passport, Salim settled down in UAE to avoid arrest by the Indian security agencies", averred IG, UP ATS. A team of sleuths from UP were camping in Mumbai and along with Maharashtra police were trying to gather details of members of sleeper cells involved in unlawful activities who receive funds from Pakistan.
