The long-gestating, controversy-laden biopic about the rock band Queen is finally moving forward - or so says the band.

Prior to this, there'd been several aborted attempts to get the film on the road with the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Whishaw attached to star as Freddie Mercury. Roger and Brian told QOL: "Rami has great presence and he's utterly dedicated to the project". Brian May hit back, saying that Baron Cohen was dropped because he wasn't right for the material and cited critical dud Grimsby as a reason why. As well as this, May and Taylor are acting as consultants on the film and all of Queen's discography will be made available for the soundtrack as well.

Queen have confirmed their biopic is "finally happening".

Mr. Robot star Rami Malek will play Queen's iconic frontman Mercury.

Rami Malek may have already nabbed the role of Freddie Mercury but the other band members have yet to be cast. Are you excited for Bohemian Rhapsody?

Queen also reconfirmed that director Bryan Singer would helm Bohemian Rhapsody. "So yes, I think we're very close", May said. If you've ever seen Singer's X-Men films, or the groundbreaking movie The Usual Suspects, you'll know this is a director with extraordinary imagination and style. "Who could imagine a more ideal fit than this brilliant actor?" the announcement asks. Principal photography in and around London is being eyed as soon as mid-September.

Roger and Brian of course are serving as the film's executive music producers. The names of the actors who will portray May, Taylor and bassist John Deacon will be revealed soon.

"After months of speculation, QOL can also confirm that the film is now "as-close-as-that" to start of shooting".

The official announcement that the film is off and running is years in the making for the long-stalled project originally announced almost eight years ago. They even hinted at a potential casting call: "Hint: Fancy being in the film?".
