The Nevada parole board will meet next week to decide whether or not O.J. Simpson should be released when eligible on October 1.

The five-part ESPN documentary, unlike the FX series, did explore the Las Vegas heist in detail, and how Simpson, a one-time football great who parlayed his success into roles in television, advertising, and movies, robbed two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room.

Parole board spokesman David Smith told NBC Simpson will be allowed to speak during his hearing.

He has been behind bars since his conviction on armed robbery and kidnapping charges nine years ago. "The hype is about the murder charge and the legal system found him not guilty".

O.J. Simpson's parole hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

He was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges.

Some believed that the long sentence he received for the Las Vegas robbery was retribution for his previous acquittal, although this was denied by the judge.

"He's going to get parole", Yale Galanter, who represented Simpson during the 2008 trial, told USA Today.

The Board of Parole Commissioners said in a statement to USA Today that its members will issue a decision on the day of this week's hearing to minimize the media circus that Simpson creates. The results of some hearings, by contrast, take three weeks to reach the inmate. "A decision (on Simpson) is being made at the time of the hearing so that the board's operation can return to normal as soon as possible after the hearing". It will include a timeline of the events that led to Simpson's incarceration. If the board votes against him, Simpson could stay in prison until 2022.

Four members of the parole commission will decide his fate, although Galanter said most of that deliberating happens before the hearing.

More than 240 media credentials have been approved, according to Keast, who said a dozen satellite trucks are expected at the sites in both in Carson City and Lovelock.

Former Chairman Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners Thomas Patton said that the board's current options were to "grant release on parole, deny parole at this time and reconsider O.J. for parole at a later date, or deny parole and require O.J.to serve the remainder of his final sentence".

"My advice to him would be to live out the rest of your life", the lawyer said.
