Following his divisive cameo in the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere, Ed Sheeran deleted and then brought back his Twitter account. Sheeran's appearance as a singing soldier became a buzzed-about topic on social media.

After a year of waiting, fans were finally rewarded last weekend when the behemoth that is '#game of thrones' returned to our screens for episode one of series seven.

"I think Ed did a lovely job - he's a lovely actor and a lovely person", Podeswa said.

"The hoo-ha seems to be from things that are outside of the world of the show".

Speaking to Newsweek, Podeswa claimed, "He was appropriate for the part because he needed to sing".

"The truth is everybody on the show is famous now", Podeswa said. "You don't think about that very much in this context".

Yesterday (July 18), fans noticed that Sheeran deleted his Twitter as vitriol poured in from GOT fans who thought Sheeran didn't belong on the broadcast.

Meanwhile, in other Sheeran-cameo-related news, the singer also recently announced that he will be appearing, in cartoon form, in The Simpsons.

Podeswa, who has directed six episodes of the popular HBO show, told the Daily Beast that Sheeran was "lovely" and "down-to-earth".

Veteran TV director Jeremy Podeswa was the one who had the idea of giving the 26-years old singer the role of a nameless Lannister soldier, a character who, midway through 'Dragonstone, ' entertains his comrades at a campfire with a little song about Tyrion Lannister and his secret, now dead, ex-love Shae. "So I think that's the only drag", he finished.

"I was quite surprised about the reaction actually, because I know he's very well known and a successful singer, but you're in the bubble of the show - the cast are well known too, everybody is really well known", Podeswa told Newsweek said.
