The Ministry of Home Affairs said Huang Jing, a professor of US-China relations at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, "knowingly interacted with intelligence organisations and agents of the foreign country" with the aim of bringing about a change in the direction of Singapore's foreign policy. Dr Huang also recruited others in his operations, MHA added.

"Singaporeans must keep themselves informed of what's happening in our country through reliable sources of information, such as government's announcements", he said. Authorities did not say which foreign government he was accused of working for.

The Government, however, declined to act on the information. The ministry said she had been aware that her husband was using his position to advance the interests of a foreign country.

He was concerned that Prof Huang had held a senior position at "one of Singapore's top think-tanks" and had lived here for several years. He did this in collaboration with foreign intelligence agents.

He has authored three books and many journal articles, book chapters and policy papers on China's politics, development strategy and foreign policy, as well as US-China relations, China's military and security issues in the Asia-Pacific. "Huang's continued presence in Singapore, and that of his wife, are therefore undesirable", Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs said. As of Saturday, his biography page had been removed from the school's website.

Prof Huang is the Lee Foundation Professor on US-China Relations at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School).

The ministry identified the couple as U.S. citizens, but did not identify the country that Huang was alleged to have been working for. He also initiated and chaired the projects on China-India-Japan's energy policies and policymaking process, Asia-EU energy security, and Asia's environmental polies. He has also appeared on Channel NewsAsia, a leading local television channel. He was also a senior fellow at think-tank Brookings Institution, an academic at Utah State University and had lectured at Stanford University. The academic is now an economic analyst for Xinhua News Agency and an advisor to China Foundation for global and Strategic Studies.

He has researched and spoken widely, including to finews.com, about understanding China in the west, and is a long-time resident of Singapore.

Prof Huang is appointed as a Prestigious International Scholars(海外名师)by the Shanghai Municipal Government.

Prof Huang received his Ph.D.

He later studied history and English at Fudan University and Sichuan University before going to the United States and earning a PhD in government at Harvard, according to a screenshot of the deleted web page.
