Doklam issue will be resolved peacefully: Bhutan Foreign Minister

Although there was not any official statement declared in regard to the meeting between the two leaders, the meeting was at the scrim of the present standoff in Dokhlam, a tri junction between India, China and Bhutan.

The countdown to a clash between the Indian and Chinese forces has begun, warned a China Daily editorial on Wednesday. Since no breakthrough is expected in the seven-week-long standoff at Doklam with China, the Indian Army is closely monitoring the entire border with China - along Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry reacted to a report where China had allegedly offered to move its troops back 100 meters, after India sought the pullback of Chinese troops by 250 metres. A corps is made up of three divisions and has a total of 20-30,000 troops. China has insisted that India should unilaterally withdraw its forces before any dialogue.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today met her Bhutanese counterpart Damcho Dorji here and is understood to have discussed bilateral issues, amidst the standoff between Indian and Chinese troops in the Dokalam area of the Sikkim sector. Speaking at a public event, the Tibetan spiritual leader described India and China as close neighbours but cautioned against "harsh words".

Amid the ongoing stand-off going between Indian and Chinese military at Doklam, Union Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday assured the Lok Sabha that India Army has enough force to tackle any kind of situation and are prepared to face any eventuality.

India has conveyed to the Chinese government that the road construction would represent a significant change of status quo with serious security implications for it. Doka La is the Indian name for the region which Bhutan recognises as Doklam, while China claims it as part of its Donglang region.
