Guliyev won in a time of 20.09 seconds, while Van Niekerk crossed the line in a time of 20.11.

The 30-year-old had been given the go-ahead by the sport's governing body the IAAF after missing Monday's heats and then the 400m final because the quarantine period for the highly contagious norovirus which he had been diagnosed with had expired. He finished in 20.20 seconds.

South African Wayde van Niekerk has broken down during an emotional interview after taking silver in the 200m final at the world championships in London.

Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago also clocked 20.11 but had to settle for the bronze medal on photo finish.

Isaac Makwala was turned away from the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday after being ruled ineligible to compete at the world championships because of a stomach bug that has affected about 30 people at one of the official hotels.

Urged on by the crowd, he completed his solo attempt in 20.20 seconds, well inside the target, and finished second in his semi-final about two hours later despite running in the inside lane, widely regarded as the most hard.

"I am heartbroken. I feel like it is sabotage".

In the U.S. , the consumer price index and the Baker Hughes oil rig count are at 1330 BST and 1800 BST, respectively. European stock markets fell further in opening trade on Friday on intensifying fears over North Korea , dealers said.

Uncertainty drives health premiums higher
The findings are based on insurer filings in almost two dozen major cities and they could change over the next few weeks. Requested premium increases for the benchmark silver plan, upon which premium subsidies are based, vary widely by city.

Coast Guard rescues Navy pilot after crash off Florida Keys
A Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Miami and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane crew were sent to search for the pilot. Lt Russell Chilcoat of the Navy Reserve Forces Command said the pilot had ejected from his aircraft before it crashed.

"I was ready to run".

"To be honest with you it really did upset me a bit", said van Niekerk.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said he should be in quarantine and not near the track.

He had to run a solo time-trial at 1840BST on Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals at 2055BST, where he was an additional competitor and qualified for the final. He's a strong athlete, I've seen him break through a lot of challenges. "I'm on top of the world right now, it's been such a long year". 400m is my race.

Van Niekerk reiterated that the response to his 400m win was the source of his mid-interview breakdown.

Britain's Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake went through to the final but there was no place for Danny Talbot or Zharnel Hughes.

Those with a keen athletics eye might point to the fact that Guliyev's junior best is second only to Bolt's but, after a decade of minor medals in minor championships, and at the age of 27, his chances of global gold looked slim to say the least. I've always shown him massive respect and for him to come out and mention my name among something fishy with the IAAF and pointing me out as some kind of favourite, knowing how hard I've been working in the last few years. "I have been on the highest stage with an Olympics so this just wasn't enough today", he told reporters.
