Cuomo Donor Makes Racist Remark About Black State Senator

Third Point CEO Dan Loeb has apologized for a Facebook post reportedly accusing NY state senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins of being a "hypocrite" and doing "more damage to people of color than anyone who has ever donned a hood". I dissociate myself from such statements, " Klein said Friday morning. "Jeff Klein doesn't represent the suburbs", she said.

Richard Azzopardi, a spokesman for Mr. Cuomo, said, "We have no connection with these comments whatsoever, and in our opinion they are entirely inappropriate and have no place in the public discourse".

Andrea Stewart-Cousins, a Westchester Democrats who leads the mainline group of Democrats who have been urging Cuomo - unsuccessfully - to get involved in party efforts to bring a breakaway group of Senate Democrats to end their alliance with Republicans.

Loeb wrote in the since-deleted Facebook post: "Thank God for Jeff Klein and those who stand for educational choice and support Charter funding that leads to economic mobility and opportunity for poor knack (sic) kids".

Billionaire hedge fund manager Dan Loeb apologized after writing a racial insult on Facebook about a black state senator, The New York Times reported.

Loeb also serves as the chairman of the Success Academy charter school network board of directors.

When the discussion turned to how to best win elections, Mr. Cuomo suggested to the assembled lawmakers - many of them from New York City - that the leader of eight breakaway Democrats, Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, had a better understanding of the suburbs than they had.

On Wednesday night, Stewart-Cousins spokesman Mike Murphy lashed out at Loeb.

A Facebook posting from a prominent political donor has turned an under-the-radar controversy that started with Governor Andrew Cuomo and state Senate Democrats into one that is now getting public reaction from around the NY political world.

The whole affair has left some Democrats and Republicans elbowing each other to see who could place greater distance from the controversy.

"I regret the language I used in expressing my passion for educational choice", Loeb wrote.

Andrea Stewart-Cousins is the African-American leader of the state Senate Democrats.

Stewart-Cousins has not publicly responded to Loeb's comment.

A prominent Cuomo donor is in hot water after proclaiming that the State's Senate Democratic Conference Leader-a black woman-did "more damage to people of color than anyone who has ever donned a hood".
