South Korean Military is Ready to Act Against Every North Korean Provocation

Guam is home to about 163,000 people and a USA military base that includes a submarine squadron, an air base and a Coast Guard group.

Worries over a potential confrontation between the United States and North Korea weighed heavily on global stock markets on Wednesday but helped boost the price of assets, such as gold and the Swiss franc, that are considered safe havens in times of geopolitical peril. And then there are other people that feel like our president is exacerbating things, too. "Why did Guam just pop up - like North Korea is going to be bombing?" Beyond that, we also have a president who's got a more aggressive tenor than other presidents in the past.

Because Guam is a U.S. territory, the United States military may launch forces from there without worrying about upsetting a host nation that may object to USA actions.

Guam is also the home port for nuclear submarines and a contingent of Special Operations Forces.

The U.S. seized Guam from Spain in 1898 to provide a fueling station for the U.S. fleet in the western Pacific.
