The Queensland Police Service said it appeared "the plane had a rough landing on the runway" about noon.

Aerial photos showed the Sling 4 plane was extensively damaged in the crash.

The other trapped passenger had "significant lower limb injuries".

Those three were in a stable condition on the Sunshine Coast. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the way to the site to investigate the cause of the crash.

There were two occupants in the airplane.

The crash happened about a half mile away from the road near a field.
