ENGLEWOOD-It was the type of injury scare that could have spoiled a season before it began.

Denver Broncos defensive lineman Derek Wolfe had to be carted off the practice field on Saturday with an injury but it appears that the Broncos and Wolfe dodged a bullet. Trainers helped Wolfe onto a cart, and he was taken to the locker room. After practice, coach Vance Joseph said that Wolfe has an ankle injury that did not appear to be serious at first look. After a season marred by a painful elbow injury, Wolfe added bulk in the offseason, beefing up 20 pounds, he said. "Hopefully, it's not serious and it's just a sprain".

Losing him for an extended period of time would be a major setback for the Denver defense.

On Thursday, the Broncos lost defensive lineman Billy Winn for the season after he tore his ACL during Thursday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears.
