France's Macron speaks to Trump, warns over N. Korea escalation

United States President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted that military solutions were "fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

"The two presidents agreed to remain in contact over the coming days", it added.

On Thursday, Defense Secretary James Mattis said the military is ready to counter the threat from North Korea, but also said the effort is being "diplomatically led".

Macron had joined a chorus of worldwide voices urging restraint in the crisis, which has alarmed the global community as Trump has engaged in days of verbal sparring with Pyongyang.

Actor Kal Penn has pointed out the president of the United States' posts fit the bill.

He also assured "France's allies and partners in the region of our solidarity in the current period".

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has said the regime of Kim Jong Un is responsible for the crisis over North Korea's nuclear programme and must now "fix it".

On Tuesday, the commander in chief said the rogue nation "will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen".

The Chinese foreign ministry said Xi urged Trump to avoid "words and deeds" that would "exacerbate" the already-tense situation and to exercise restraint and seek a political settlement.

As the crisis has unfolded, Trump has alternated praising China for its help and chiding it for not doing more. All parties must assure North Koreans they we will forego any military action against them if North Korea remains peaceful.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un responded by threatening, if attacked, to strike targets in or around Guam in the western Pacific.

Trump's "firm break with 20-plus years of failed American policy on North Korea represents the one chance we might have to forestall a massive conflict on the Korean peninsula", said Jaffer in an email. They may continue launching missile tests but they don't want a war, and the US doesn't want military action either.

President Donald Trump has issued fresh threats of swift and forceful retaliation against nuclear North Korea, declaring the US military "locked and loaded" and warning that the communist country's leader "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against USA territories or allies.
