Groups hold peace rallies across CA after vehicle attack, violence in Charlottesville

Virginia State Police say they've made three arrests in connection with the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville. The group also reported vandalism to "Hate Has No Home Here" signs that were put up in yards throughout the neighborhood.

Part of what made the case become a federal one was that the chief suspect, 20-year-old James Alex Fields, Jr, crossed state lines, travelling from OH to Virginia.

Police in Virginia have arrested the driver suspected of plowing his vehicle into a group of counter-protesters in Charlottesville, killing one woman and injuring 19 people, five of whom are in critical condition. At least one person was killed while 26 others were injured.

President Donald Trump is condemning "in the strongest possible terms" what he's calling an "egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides" after clashes at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. "No matter our colour, creed, religion, our political party, we are all Americans first", he said, adding that he'd like for his administration to "study" why such violence is occurring.

The governor, who is a Democrat, said he had spoken to President Trump, and twice urged him to begin a movement to bring people together, reports the BBC.

Earlier in the day, Trump addressed the situation via his Twitter page, saying: "We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for".

Republican President Donald Trump is facing criticism for not acknowledging that white supremacists were responsible for the violence.

He then said that the driver of the auto was "honking their horn" and then "they were just, like, bulldozing through people".
