Nationals get 'a glimmer of hope' on Bryce Harper

During the first inning of the Nationals' game against the visiting San Francisco Giants, star outfielder Bryce Harper's leg buckled as he touched first base. Jones reached the base first for the out, but as soon as Harper's left foot touched the bag, he went airborne. The 15-year veteran had to mentally prepare to pitch again Saturday, and had to wait out an additional three hours because of more rain.

Haper stayed on the ground in serious pain, and had to be helped off the field. Of course, the Washington Nationals have had their fair share of those kinds of injuries this year when Adam Eaton tore his ACL in late April trying to beat out an infield single against the Mets.

Harper suffered the injury when he slipped on a wet first base in the first inning of Saturday's 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Harper should be back by the end of the season, Rizzo said. He's fourth in the majors in slugging percentage (.614), fifth in batting average (.326) and OBP (.419) and tied for ninth in home runs (29).

Watch Out for Fake Eclipse Glasses
The partial eclipse is scheduled to start in Brookings at 11:37 a.m. "Don't use homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses". Doctors say that watching the phenomenon without proper protection can cause serious eye damage or even blindness.

Anthony Martial to Tottenham
The Italian club wants the former Monaco star to be a replacement for Ivan Perisic if United get hold of the Croatian. Bouhafsi also claimed that Inter Milan have had a loan-to-buy offer for Martial rejected by United.

Arsenal edge past Leicester in Premier League season opener
It was a recurring concern every time Leicester moved into the final third, with Arsenal's three at the back looking unacquainted. So hard to choose between Spurs (Wembley woe?) and Arsenal (unhappy/without Alexis Sanchez , pictured below).

The Nationals' best hope is that Harper sustained nothing beyond a hyperextension.

According to Robert Flores of MLB Network, Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo called the setback a bone bruise while noting Harper avoided ligament and tendon damage in the knee.

OUR PREDICTION: The Giants have dropped six of their last seven games in Washington, are 0-5 in their last five games versus the Nationals, and are 1-6 in their last seven road games versus a team with a winning home record. The team didn't have an immediate update on Harper's status. "I couldn't get the ball down in the first inning". The Washington Nationals have tabbed veteran right hander Max Scherzer as the starter against the San Francisco Giants. "I'm very optimistic that he'll be at least fine shortly", Baker said. He was able to do that, as Melancon allowed one hit and had one strikeout against his most recent team in the eighth inning, his first work since June 27. Right now, the Nats are out of healthy outfielders on the 40-man roster since Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth are on the disabled list as well.
