Nitish could be made convenor of the NDA, the stature once enjoyed by George Fernandes and Sharad Yadav, according to JD (U) leaders. "I invited JD (U) to join the NDA", Mr Shah said in a tweet.

"When we are together in government in Bihar it is only natural that our party joins the Union government", he said.

Several JD (U) leaders, including Yadav, were miffed with Kumar's "unilateral" decision.

Paswan said his party would welcome Nitish Kumar's entry in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fold.

The political dais to centrestage "secular values" would follow what is turning into a complete divorce between Nitish Kumar and Sharad Yadav.
