Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai on Saturday offered to resign after corruption allegations were levelled against him. I had word with CM over phone about the resignation. "This precedent of accepting resignations on the strength of just Opposition's allegations is not good for the state". Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray defended Desai, who belongs to his party.

"Desai told me that he wanted to stay away till the inquiry is over".

He said mere allegations should not warrant a resignation. While the Opposition insisted on resignations from both ministers, Fadnavis said there was no need for them to offer resignations.

While Desai faces charges of de-notifying the land belonging to Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation in Nashik to favour a builder, Mehta has been accused of preferring a builder for a slum development authority project in Mumbai. The minister had admitted to this irregularity. He also reiterated his demand of Maheta's and Desai's resignations.

He said Desai's resignation was a decision of Shiv Sena, but if accepted the CM would be forced to sack his own minister as well. "It shows how serious Shiv Sena and BJP are". "The same government has applied different parameters to Desai and Mehta and Eknath Khadse, who was sacked pending inquiry", said Sawant. He said there was no need for the resignation.

NCP's Opposition leader in legislative Council Dhananjay Munde said the government had a double standard. "How could they continue (as ministers) while facing a probe?" he asked.
