The report promoted by the "Fox and Friends" Twitter account cited unnamed USA officials with knowledge of intelligence in North Korea who said that spy agencies detected North Korea loading missiles onto a patrol boat.

Hours earlier, Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade tweeted a poll asking if members of the media should be prosecuted for publishing classified information.

Trump has repeatedly complained about leaks of government information to the press. The type of missile movements in the story appears fairly routine.

When asked about the story on "Fox and Friends," Ambassador Nikki Haley said, "I can't talk about anything that's classified and if that's in the newspaper that's a shame". "I have no reason to comment on it". He recently urged Attorney General Jeff Sessions to take a far more aggressive posture toward rooting out leakers. "I will tell you it's incredibly risky when things get out into the press like that". "You're not just getting a scoop on something, you're playing with people's lives, and this has got to stop wherever the leaks are coming from", Ms. Haley said on Fox News.

President Bashar al Assad's government, meanwhile, accuses the group of faking videos and being a tool of its worldwide donors. The SCD receives millions of pounds worth of funding from many Western government including the United Kingdom and the US.

"Wherever the leaks are coming from, if someone thinks they're getting power and fame from it, all you're doing is putting Americans in danger", Haley said.

But just a few hours before Haley's appearance on Fox, Trump retweeted a post from the Fox News morning show promoting the story said to contain classified information. We must be tough & decisive!

Meanwhile, on a flight to Guam, which North Korea threatened to launch missiles against after President Trump's violent rhetoric, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson aimed to reassure the nation.

In one fell swoop, Trump confirmed the story's authenticity, undermined Haley's cautious position, and essentially "put Americans in danger", exactly as she warns.
