US Service Members Killed, 5 Injured In Northern Iraq

Five other American service members were hurt from Sunday's incident.

Two American troopers have been executed while leading battle operations in Iraq, the USA military said Sunday, including that "underlying reports demonstrate the occurrence was not because of foe contact".

A brief statement from the US -led coalition fighting the Islamic State militant group said five other soldiers were injured in the incident.

"The entire counter-ISIS Coalition sends our deepest condolences to these heroes' families, friends and teammates", Lieutenant General Stephen Townsend, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, said in a statement.

Close to 5,000 US troops are now aiding in the fight against the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS.

Back in March 17, a US-led airstrike in the then Daesh-held city of Mosul killed 105 civilians sheltered in the bottom floors of a structure.

Military "advisers" from several countries have also been aiding federal Iraqi forces on the frontlines. "There are no words to describe the respect I have for you and the sorry I have for your loss".
