The Gunners had won just one of their last seven opening-day fixtures and looked destined to start another campaign slowly as the 2015-16 champions took the lead twice only to lose 4-3.

"I feel as well that the goals we conceded, we can work together to get rid of that because one was a corner, one was a ball we lost in the build up and the third goal was on a corner again, so we conceded two goals on corners. I just think we are not open - what I said to you many times - to any offers, anyway".

Both Ramsey and Giroud played big parts in the win for Arsenal, as both ended up on the scoresheet. I wanted first for him to come back, he is coming out of a fracture. "It was a relief for me he chose to stay". "Watching them in training and talking to them I think we have the balance right as well, but we all know it is a results business and we must be ready for Friday".

There was still plenty to do, but somehow Lacazette found the pace and the direction to plant a header into the bottom corner, with not even two minutes showing up yet on the clock.

"Going forward and character wise we have been great. We kept the faith and kept believing in our game to push hard", said Giroud who has vowed to fight for his place.

England striker Jamie Vardy, who was heavily linked with Arsenal 12 months ago, scored a brace either side of a Danny Welbeck leveller that showed Arsenal's rearguard to be equally terrible from open play and set-piece situations.
