Wozniacki is yet to win a title in 2017, but will once again have the chance to change that after building on her epic quarterfinal win over world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova.

Sixth seed Wozniacki, the champion in 2010, saw off unseeded American Stephens 6-2 6-3 in the first semi-final in Toronto. But her efforts were undone by too many unforced errors and Wozniacki calmly marched through the first set. But the 27-year-old Dane found her footing and served out the match after a brief rain delay at 5-3 to clinch victory in 80 minutes.

Wozniacki will play defending champion Simona Halep or Elina Svitolina for the championship on Sunday at Toronto's Aviva Centre.

The pair will play twice in a day after rain disrupted the schedule.

Halep defeated Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-2 while fifth seeded Svitolina rallied from a first set loss to beat reigning Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Halep said she is confident her legs will hold up when she faces Svitolina later in the day for a spot in the final.

"I'll be playing against a very good opponent".
