Tropical Storm Harvey heads toward eastern Caribbean

Tropical Storm Harvey has formed about 200 miles east of the Windward Islands, according to the National Hurricane Center, packing wind speeds near 40 mph. As of Thursday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center gave 92L a 60% chance of developing into a named system over the next 2 days as the system moves west northwest. Favourable upper level pattern across the islands could result in enhancement of this system which has a high (80-90%) chance of becoming a tropical storm as it crosses our area.

A Hurricane Hunter aircraft determined that Harvey, which was previously a tropical disturbance, had a defined center and sustained winds near 40 miles per hour with higher gusts. It was on track to pass near or over Barbados early Friday on a path toward Central America.

A Tropical Storm-Warning is effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). It's too soon to tell if this potential system will be a threat to the US.
