Chelsea boss Conte laughs off Costa criticism

Chelsea's opening-day defeat by Burnley prompted odds on the Blues retaining their title to drift to 13/2, while Conte was instated as the favourite to be first Premier League manager to depart this season.

On Thursday, Conte laughed off questions about the row during a press conference in London and said Costa was "in the past".

"We are all reacting to the negative stories that are around Chelsea and the manager at the moment, but they may well sign two or three top class players in the next few weeks, fly out of the blocks and he might end up getting a five year contract at the end of this season", BT Sport pundit Lampard told Yahoo Sport.

"This is quite reminiscent to Mourinho's last season, where it all went pear-shaped, it started happening quite early in pre-season".

"To fight to win the title, to try to win".

"Manchester City probably have the most quality in terms of attacking players, but we don't know whether they are all going to gel together".

Dodgers acquire Granderson in trade with Mets
Granderson was in his fourth season with the Mets and 13th overall after four seasons with the Yankees and five with the Tigers. Mets manager Terry Collins speaks to the media before Friday's game against the Marlins and talks about Jeurys Familia.

"I think we need time".

"No. I'm not interested to continue this issue".

If a deal were to be finally reached, Costa would not be able to play with Atletico during the first half of the season due to FIFA's ban that prevents the Spanish club from registering new players until January 2018, so he would presumably be transferred on loan to another club in the interim. I don't see any problems about the future.

Conte belatedly signed an improved contract, although not an extension to the deal which has two years left to run. So he's actually no better off than last season.

Despite the negativity around Chelsea, Lampard believes they could defy their doubters for a second successive season by mounting a successful defence of their Premier League crown.

It was significant PR blunder for Chelsea, who were hoping to further the club's popularity in a country that has a population of over 1.3 billion. "We must have patience to work".
