HBO regains control of hacked social media accounts

HBO says it is investigating another hack where the company's Twitter and Facebook accounts were compromised overnight.

A year ago it compromised Netflix, as well as Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Google chief executive Sundar Pichai.

OurMine has a history of similar hacks showing companies' security vulnerabilities.

HBO said in a statement Thursday that "the infringement on our social media accounts was recognized and rectified quickly".

IT Pro has contacted OurMine for comment.

Yesterday, HBO Spain accidentally started airing the next episode of Game of Thrones a week early. It appeared on its subscription HBO Go service but was pulled within the hour. In 2015, the first four episodes of the fifth season were leaked shortly after the premiere.

Officials added that the accidental release was not part of a cyberattack reported last month in which hackers claimed to have stolen 1.5 terebytes of HBO data.

"In the spirit of professional cooperation, we are asking you to extend your deadline for one week". However, this time, it is said to be a sheer mistake.

It's unclear what information the hackers stole.

HBO Europe said in a note it had "learned that the upcoming episode of Game of Thrones was accidentally posted for a brief time on the HBO Nordic and HBO Espana platforms".

The hackers warned the network's security was vulnerable.

The leak includes episodes for the highly anticipated "Curb Your Enthusiasm", which returns in October, as well as "Insecure", "Ballers" and "The Deuce".

A spokesperson for HBO told "CBS This Morning" the hacks are an effort, "to generate media attention".
