Everton manager, Ronald Koeman believes he has captured "one of the best players in the Premier League" in Gylfi Sigurdsson who vowed to "score goals and create goals" for Everton after completing a Club record move from Swansea City.

"He was a great player, one of the top players of his time", said Sigurdsson.

Icelandic global Sigurdsson finished third in combined goals and assists amongst midfielders in the Premier League last season behind Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham's Christian Eriksen. We need players who will bring productivity to the team.

"He knows the Premier League and he had really good seasons with Swansea".

Sigurdsson will not feature in Thursday's contest at Goodison Park, but Koeman has indicated he could make his Everton debut in Monday's league clash with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

He was on loan at Swansea for the second half of the 2011-12 season before playing for Everton from 2012-14.

"I don't know if still he needs to sign".

One player who certainly brought Koeman's specified productivity to the Everton team in the 1-0 win over Stoke City in their domestic season opener was Wayne Rooney.

"I was very pleased", Koeman said.

"Sigurdsson gets a game wherever he goes and looks perfectly good in any team you put him in".

There was a frostier tone reserve for Ross Barkley, whose future took another twist this week after he suffered another injury setback.

Tottenham have always been reported as admirers of the 23-year-old playmaker and Koeman declared the player's Everton career to be over last month after he rejected a new contract offer. "It's hard to see how Sigurdsson fits into the side or provides anything Everton don't already have".

The Dutchman added that there was "no update" in terms of the 23-year-old's "situation", and when asked if he was in his plans for the coming season, he said: "I will wait until the end of August".
