Samuel L. Jackson in Talks For 'Shaft' Sequel

Usher is in talks to star in New Line's "Shaft" sequel, "Son of Shaft", directed by Tim Story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Former Shaft actors Richard Roundtree and Samuel L.Jackson will reprise their roles from their respective "Shaft" films for New Line Cinema's "Son of Shaft".

Now it appears that the story of the family Shaft will continue with Son of Shaft starring Usher, who previously played Will Smith's adult son in Independence Day: Resurgence and currently stars as the lead in the STARZ series Survivors Remorse. Granted, Jackson's been one of the busiest actors in the business, but fortunately he's doing enough action-oriented films like The Avengers and most recently, The Hitman's Bodyguard to keep himself in great shape to take on whatever physical demands Son of Shaft imposes. (Christian Bale) behind bars and ended with him heading out to protect the innocent.

The reboot, directed by John Singleton, centered on the original Shaft's nephew (Jackson), an NYPD detective who investigates a racially-charged murder.

Usher is back to the big screen as the son of legendary private eye Shaft... can you dig it? This film will see Usher play his grandson, an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and cyber expert who is teamed with his old school father (Jackson). Parks and Roundtree also teamed on "Shaft's Big Score" in 1972 and "Shaft in Africa" in 1973. The partnership is said to pit old school against new school.

"Shaft" was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2000.

"Black-ish" creator Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow wrote the script, and Barris is producing with John Davis and Ira Napoliello.
