Police and fire officials say a 14-year-old freshman has collapsed during football practice at his New York City high school and died.

The incoming freshman was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center North Division where he was pronounced dead, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

"The student was treated immediately on campus and paramedics transported him to a local hospital", the school said in a statement.

At least four other boys have died during the past two months around the country during practices.

It's unclear whether heat or exhaustion played a role in Dominick's death, but there was a heat advisory in effect in the Bronx from noon to 6 p.m. School officials say practice was earlier in the morning.

"The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure", the advisory said.
