Palaniswami makes veiled attack on Sasikala faction over corruption charges

As political turmoil within the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu continues, 19 pro-T.T.V. Dhinakaran MLAs reportedly met with the state's governor on Tuesday and asked that he take action against chief minister E. Palanaswami (known popularly as EPS) for "abuse of power", "corruption" and "favouritism".

Palaniswami's comments comes a day after 18 legislators belonging to Sasikala-Dinakaran faction submitted a letter to Governor C.Vidyasagar Rao withdrawing charging the government as corrupt and urged him to appoint a new Chief Minister.

They withdrew support to Palaniswami after the factions led by the CM and his predecessor O Panneerselvam reached a consensus to remove V.K. Sasikala as the party chief.

After the merger, the AIADMK has 134 legislators in the 234-member assembly.

For Sasikala, the AIADMK has been as much part of her life, as Jayalalithaa herself was and, for over three decades, she was the go-to person for most AIADMK leaders. That takes the number of MLAs backing Dhinakaran to 20 and the number is expected to rise as a few more, including Karunas and Thamimun Ansari, are yet to declare their support openly to EPS.

Mysterious new trailer for Black Mirror teases "unpleasant" Season Four
Charlie Brooker has been helpfully keeping fans up to date with the progress of Black Mirror's fourth season, which is still now shooting.

Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam thanked chief minister E Palanisami on Wednesday for bringing him back to the fold and promised to tread the path chosen by MGR and Amma.

The Dhinakaran faction in the AIADMK has made it clear that they intend to remove chief minister Palanswami from his post and put forth their own candidate.

"This is an attempt to threaten our supporters who are in the government as if they join us then the government will fall", Thanga Tamil Selvam added further. In Puducherry, the protesters were seen burning the posters of Dinakaran. "The Whip's recommendation is not valid as per law", said MLA P Vetrivel. But Lok Sabha polls are due in two years, and Tamil Nadu's 40 seats, 39 of them now held by the AIADMK, are crucial for the BJP. The DMK working president, who has waited too long for the AIADMK government to collapse under its own contradictions, is under pressure from within his party and outside to pull the rug.

The Governor hasn't spoken his mind on how he would proceed but opposition leader MK Stalin of the DMK had also started demanding that Mr Palaniswami or EPS, must be told to seek another confidence vote in the state assembly.
