Disney Changes Star Wars Rebels Season 4 Air Time

The development comes after Abrams stepped in to replace Colin Trevorrow as the helmer of the ninth chapter of the Star Wars film franchise.

And now Episode IX is undergoing rewrites, has seen Colin Trevorrow walk off into the sunset, and has a brand new director and a seven month delay. She was slated to play a significant role in Episode IX, and she may still appear in the film using pre-shot footage.

Just a few days after being crowned the frontrunner to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, Rian denied that he was not in the running to direct the sequel to Episode VIII. He previously directed and co-write "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in 2015, the opening film in the series' third trilogy, which he will now also wrap up.

Abrams launched Disney's reboot of the "Star Wars" franchise with 2015's box office hit "The Force Awakens", which reunited original 1977 stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill and introduced a new generation of characters. It is clear that Disney and Lucasfilm want to stick to a single formula.

In an official statement to the media earlier, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who is overseeing the production of the Star Wars movies, said, "With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy". Rian Johnson has directed the last Star Wars film, "The Last Jedi".

It is the second Star Wars film to lose a director this year, after filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were removed as directors of the upcoming spin-off about Han Solo. They were replaced by Hollywood veteran Ron Howard, the Oscar-winning director of "A Beautiful Mind".
