HC allows DU to declare president election result on Wednesday

Hindu College recorded the highest turnout at 65%, while the lowest, 14%, was recorded at Aryabhatta College in south campus.

As opposed to last year's substandard turnout of 37 per cent for both morning and evening round, 45.3 per cent students made a decision to exercise their right to vote in the morning round, confirmed S B Babbar, chief election officer of DUSU.

Delhi University Student Union Elections took place on September 12th. The final voting figures were yet to be announced at the time of going to press.

Historically, a bipolar electoral affair, the election this year in Delhi University has seen the rise of another student group, the radical left AISA, which has found many supporters among students after the brawl at Ramjas College in February and turned the usually bilateral contest between the ABVP and NSUI into a multi-cornered fight.

With morning colleges recording over 45% voter turnout on Tuesday, the Delhi University Students' Union polls had a better turnout than past year.

Students of evening colleges in South Campus like PGDAV college, Motilal Nehru and Aurobindo said that they felt neglected.

-The counting at nine colleges remains to be done, according to reports. "It was the college where ABVP president had raised objection to the event, following which there was violence on campus".

"We received calls from various colleges about a good number of students turning out to vote", he told the news agency.

At Zakir Hussain College, a visually impaired student was elected to the college panel. Last year, Congress's National Students Union of India (NSUI) was elected in the post of joint secretary. He said he wanted students with disabilities to get the best facilities.

In its earlier interim order on September 8, the Delhi High Court had allowed Tuseed to contest the election by setting aside the September 7 directive of the Delhi University's Chief Election Officer. After Tuseed did not oppose the plea of DU to declare the results, HC modified its order giving the go ahead. "The outcome of the election result will be subject to the outcome of this main petition", Justice Kaur said.
