Nintendo Switch Online App Now Updated With Background Voice Chat

Voice chat will now continue during sleep mode.

There's still a lot that could be improved with the Nintendo Switch Online, both the service and the app, but it's good to know that Nintendo are listening at least. Due to numerous issues that were either heinous design oversights or stupid design decisions, using the app was arguably worse than not using anything at all and just playing Splatoon 2 with your friends without voice chat.

With the new update to iOS and Android versions, the app allows you to lock your phone screen and even use other apps without worrying about the app failing.

The paid service will encompass online play, the voice chat app, eShop deals, and a Virtual Console library of retro games with added online multiplayer.

Nintendo has released an update for the Nintendo Switch Online app, allowing users to continue to use voice chat on their phone when the device is in sleep mode.

(*2) If the power-saving feature is activated on devices using Android 6.0 or later, voice chat may be interrupted after the device has entered sleep mode.

The Switch's mobile companion app launched back in July and it is fair to say we were less than impressed by its capabilities.
