Suzuki has shown off its Swift Sport warm hatch at the Frankfurt motor show overnight, announcing more power thanks to a turbocharged engine. The new turbocharger helps the engine produce impressive torque from low in the rev range, while the small displacement and direct fuel injection system optimises fuel consumption.

More so, the Swift Sport comes lighter than its predecessor - dropping a considerable 80 kilograms (176 pounds) when taking into account the cutesy city hot hatch tips the scales at a mere 970 kg (2,138 lbs).

The new Swift Sport rests on the "Heartect" platform, which is lighter and has high body rigidity.

Suzuki says those changes result in a "15 per cent increase in camber rigidity during cornering" over the last Swift Sport. The Monroe* rear suspension was specially created to ensure superior stability even at high speeds. The wheelbase is 20mm longer than the previous Swift Sport, while tread is 40mm wider both front and rear. Unlike the previous three-door Swift Sport, it now comes exclusively as a five-door hatch.

As for the design, we've already seen the more aggressive body compared with the regular Swift. The euro-spec Swift Sport gets a ground clearance of 120mm the same as the standard variant.

A revsied cabin is highlighted by a unique instrument cluster with contrasting coloured dials for the speedo and tacho and additional turbo boost and oil pressure guages, a flat-bottom steering wheel and sports seat with additional side bolstering. The chrome finished shift knob and sports alloy pedals complement the sports driving experience. This supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus there are lots of safety features including auto emergency brakes, lane keep assistance and adaptive cruise.

We're yet to hear any details about the India launch of this hothatch from Suzuki. Suzuki is not yet quoting acceleration figures but they are expected to be significantly improved over the outgoing Swift Sport.
