That said, structural changes include a 60mm increase in length, with new-look elements including the bonnet, grille, headlamps, bumper and wings, improving its appearance and boosting off-road ability.

Toyota has taken the wraps off its facelifted Land Cruiser Prado (sold as the Land Cruiser in European markets) at the ongoing Frankfurt motor show.

Can the Land Cruiser still cut it against fresher SUVs?

Deliveries of the updated Land Cruiser Prado commence in November.

A new Touch 2 eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been introduced, while a 4.2-inch TFT screen is wedged between the dails in the instrument panel. Eastern European markets also get the option of 2.7 and 4.0-litre petrol engines but there appear to now be no plans to offer these engines to United Kingdom buyers. Gasoline choices include a 2.7-liter option with 161 hp (120 kW) and 181 lb-ft (246 Nm), linked to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. In profile, the auto looks different thanks to a taller front bumper plus realigned wing lines and bumpers, all on the same horizontal axis.

Iraqi Parliament Votes Against Kurdistan Independence Referendum

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao backs voluntary rules for self-driving cars
Chao said the administration plans to send out principles for its long-awaited infrastructure spending plan later this fall. That guidance was also meant to be updated at least annually as the technology progresses.

Out back there are new bits including LED brake lights and a restyled bumper, plus a smaller rear garnish plate - which is not as delicious as it sounds. Six-spoke alloy wheels will be available in sizes of 17 or 18-inches, and a new 12-spoke 19-inch wheel design will also be offered.

Externally this update is described by Toyota as "more agile and dynamic", two qualities that are famously hard to quantify in sheet metal.

Controls for the drivetrain and comfort have been grouped together in different zones for ease of use, and the top of the centre console stack is lower for better visibility off-road. When the FJ Cruiser was cancelled from Australia past year, Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said, "The FJ rides into the sunset as a vehicle renowned for its ability to traverse rugged outback trails while offering plenty of utility for all types of activities and being equally well-suited for everyday driving".

Toyota's Safety Sense suite of features also comes standard on the new Land Cruiser Prado, bringing along pre-collision alert, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic head beams. The steering wheel is also new, and is shared with the V8 powered land Cruiser.
