A bailable arrest warrant has been issued against Imran Khan by Pakistan's Election Commission (ECP) after the cricketer-turned-politician repeatedly failed to appear before the court in a contempt case.

Dr Tahirul Qadri on Thursday announced his political party, Pakistan Awami Tehreek, will support the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the upcoming by-election in Lahore's NA-120 constituency. "The ECP is working on behest of the Pakistan Muslim League-N", he claimed.

The PAT chief asked people to vote in the NA-120 election on September 17 "to prevent dynastic politics from taking over once again".

Imran Khan's new counsel Babar Awan appeared in the hearing today.

BY-POLL: The NA-120 seat fell vacant after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister as a result of the Supreme Court verdict in the Panama Papers case on July 28.

Freeman High School: Alleged gunman posted troubling YouTube videos
Therman says some students thought the shooting was a drill since the school had just practiced a lockdown drill the day before. In this school shooting there were plenty of warning signs about the shooter, according to a report by KXLY-TV in Spokane.

Imran Khan, at the presser, remarked that Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ousted PM Nawaz Sharif, was behaving like a deputy prime minister in the run-up to the by-polls in the NA-120 constituency.

According to the PTI chief, the ECP was only toeing the line of the government, saying it was not impartial at all.

During the hearing of contempt proceedings, PTI chief's counsel Babar Awan contended that the ECP should halt its proceedings in the case since the party had challenged subject-matter jurisdiction in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), adding that his client reached Pakistan this morning after a brief stay in London and Khan is willing to turn up before the commission. "Never before has the ECP summoned anyone over contempt".

Speaking to the media outside ECP building, PTI's Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that opponents are spreading false information in the media pertaining to appearance of Imran Khan before the courts.
