Fire breaks out at RK Studio, 6 fire tenders at spot

A major fire engulfed RK Studios, one of the most iconic film studios in Mumbai, on Saturday. There was no crew on the set at the time of incidence.

PS Rahangdale, the chief of the Mumbai fire brigade, said an alert call was received by the department around 2.22 pm and firefighters reached the spot within five minutes.

There were no immediate reports of casualties and the conflagration was confined to electrical wiring and installations on a 800-square feet ground floor area in the studio.

RK Studio houses the logistics of the RK Films production company, named after India's popular deceased Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor. "All your concerns appreciated", the 65-year-old actor tweeted. "No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident".

The R K Studio was founded in 1948.

The busy area witnessed traffic snarl as fire tenders, water tankers and several ambulances were rushed to the site, an eyewitness said. There is no casualty or injuries whatsoever. Govandi police have registered a case of accident and said they waiting for the fire brigade probe. When Raj Kapoor died in 1988, his elder son Randhir took over the studio. Later, his younger brother Rajiv Kapoor directed "Prem Granth". The first film under the banner and that was shot here was Aag, in which Raj Kapoor played the lead role besides directing and producing it.
