Jerry Jones impeding Roger Goodell contract extension talks

Jones, of course, has reason to be upset with Goodell lately, as the league is trying to suspend Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliot.

Jones has slowed down, if not impeded, negotiations aimed at an extension for Goodell, sources familiar with those talks told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

At the heart of the issue seems to be Jones' belief that Goodell has been overpaid and that he would like to see the current proposal be re-done.

Because of that, Jerry is now reportedly impeding the progress of National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell's contract negotiations, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"If not for Jerry, this deal would be done", Schefter said. Jones has gained the support of enough owners that a discussion is being had about how to move forward with Goodell's extension.

The NFL's compensation committee is made up of six people, but the ESPN report labeled Jones the "unofficial seventh member".

It would be more fun if Jones had just generally turned on Goodell, but his gripe is reportedly over Goodell's outsized salary, as well as the salaries of "several other employees in the league office".

Friel has become the primary target of the NFLPA's attempt to battle the ruling and thus the power that Goodell wields as a product of the most recent CBA.

The increasingly edgy relationship between Jones and Goodell has sharpened to the point where Goodell's long-term future as NFL commissioner could come under fire, according to league sources.

"This is about money and a guy [Goodell] making way too much money on a grossly stupid contract for the job", a source said.

According to ESPN, there is a conference call with the compensation committee to discuss a deal and Jones, despite not being on the committee, will be on the call.
