Passengers have accused the airline of treating them "appallingly" and demanded it publishes a full list of the flights to be cancelled over the next six weeks.

"It is essential Ryanair release full list of flights affected so passengers have time to make arrangements", said a statement from Which?

It comes amid the news that Ryanair has announced a slew of flight cancellations over the coming six weeks after messing up the planning of pilot holidays.

Writing on Ryanair's Facebook page, Lucy Dwyer said she is due to travel on Thursday and needs to know if the flight will go ahead.

The list of cancelled flights up to and including Wednesday, September 20, is here.

The reason given for these cancellations was so that their work calendar could successfully switch from April-March to January-December, as well as a backlog of crew leave which must be handed out before the end of the year.

In total, Ryanair says no more than 2% of its flights will be cancelled by its error, but given the huge number of flights it handles daily, that's still a pretty significant number.

"It is clearly a mess but in the context of an operation where we operate more than 2,500 flights every day, it is reasonably small but that doesn't take away the inconvenience we've caused to people", O'Leary told Sky News.

In total, Ryanair says 56 flights will be cancelled today, with 55 more on Tuesday and 53 on Wednesday.

According to European Union law, the company has an obligation to reroute you to your destination at "the earliest opportunity", however, exactly how long "earliest" means is yet to be tested, so you may not be able to get a flight with another airline and charge Ryanair for the fare. However, there will likely be an excess which you have to pay to make any claim so it is important to check your insurance policy to see what it covers.

Ryanair also said air traffic control strikes and bad weather were factors, adding that flight cancellations would improve flight punctuality. If not, you could challenge Ryanair to pay for your losses under the Consumer Rights Act.

"We have to check if all this is respected by Ryanair".
