District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced the news of the arrest in a press conference on Monday.

'They never, ever gave up on Lisa, and that is what we're focused on'.

A spokesman for DA Gulluni told the Boston Globe that Ziegert's murder ranks as "one of the most notorious unsolved cases in Western Massachusetts..." A medical examiner determined that she had been raped and stabbed.

Ziegert was abducted from her job at the Brittany Card & Gift Shoppe in Agawam on April 15, 1992, according to MassLive.

Gary Schara, 48 of West Springfield, is charged with the kidnapping, aggravated rape, and murder of Lisa Ziegert.

The district attorney said troopers attempted earlier this month to find Schara, who's been a person of interest since 1993, but he wasn't home.

One by one they were introduced. "I expect us to get the ball snapped", he said. "And I'll be watching Atlanta as fast as I can". Most of the Detroit Lions brushed off Monday night's 24-10 win over the New York Giants as just another football game.

Dominica 'devastated' by Hurricane Maria
Hurricane Irma may have spared Puerto Rico from the brunt of its wrath, but Hurricane Maria is unlikely to do the same . The NHC warned Maria would "remain extremely dangerous" as it passed over the British and United States territories.

Her body was found in the woods on Easter Sunday, about four miles from the store. She was reported missing the next morning by the store's day clerk, who found the store open, with its lights on, and Ziegert's vehicle parked outside.

Gulluni said that on Thursday, a friend of the suspect's came forward and turned in what appeared to be handwritten documents by Schara admitting to the 1992 rape and murder.

Last year, the district attorney's office released a composite image of the suspect in Ziegert's slaying through a process called DNA phenotyping, which uses genetic material to predict the physical appearance and ancestry of an unknown individual.

Gulluni said the DNA collected in the case had "been recurrently run against state, national and global databases, without a match". He also said Schara tried committing suicide before he was arrested Saturday in CT.

"We'll do anything, and sit through anything to have this happen, and to face this person and to say, 'We got you, '" Diane Ziegert said.

Schara was arraigned as a fugitive of justice in a CT courtroom on Monday. "... No matter how long it takes, you can always be brought to justice".
