'Newton' is India's entry to the Oscars

Newton stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, and the Film Federation of India confirmed today that the film will be India's official Oscar entry. The movie features Rajkummar Rao along with Anjali Patil, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Mukesh Prajapati in the prominent roles to look for.

Newton movie is about government clerk Newton Kumar who is sent on election duty Chattisgarh region that was controlled by Naxals.

Amit Masurkar, the director of the film, said it was a double celebration for the team. "I hope with "Newton", I get more global recognition". Rajkummar Rao made this announcement on his official Twitter handle. Newton is a sarcastic take on the current political system and everything that's wrong with it.

After Barfi! in 2012, Newton may be the least intimidating Indian Oscar entry for a regular viewer. We are a 70-year-old democracy, and I am glad that with this film we could focus on the need to strengthen our democracy.

The 90th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 4, 2018 in Los Angeles.

As many as 26 Indian films had competed to be India's official submission for the Best Foreign Film language category at the Oscars.
