September 20, 2017 (EIRNS)-While the global mainstream media used some parts of Trump's speech to portray him as a mad war-monger, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he was positively impressed by Trump's commitment to respect sovereignty of other countries.

Russian Federation and China challenged the United States' global leadership in United Nations speeches peppered with bare-knuckled criticism of the Trump administration's hostility toward Iran, its "military hysteria" over North Korea, and its approach to the rest of the world.

"We resolutely condemn the nuclear missile adventures of Pyongyang in violation of Security Council resolutions, but military hysteria is not just an impasse, it's a disaster", Lavrov argued.

North Korea in recent weeks detonated its sixth nuclear bomb and has test-fired intercontinental missiles - saying it needs to defend itself against hostility from the United States and its allies.

He also expressed his hope that the Russian initiative that involves sending a UN peacekeeping mission to Eastern Ukraine would ultimately help to resolve the crisis, adding that the relevant draft resolution had been already submitted to the UN Security Council.

During his election campaign, Trump had threatened to "tear up" the deal.

The Chinese minister noted that during the "Six Party" talks between South Korea, China, the US, Russia, North Korea and Japan in 2005, the "US undertook to normalize relations with DPRK".

Wang told Japan foreign minister Taro Kono on the sidelines of a United Nations meeting in NY that the situation on the Korean peninsula was getting increasingly serious and all sides needed to remain calm. "Special attention was paid to the situation in Iraq in the light of the moves taken by the country authorities to liquidate a hotbed of worldwide terrorism, Islamic State", the ministry said.

Russian Federation is now subject to strict USA sanctions over its 2014 annexation of Crimea.

The same, he hinted, could not be said of the United States.

The foreign ministers of Russian Federation and China took the stage Thursday at the General Assembly to push again for a return to dialogue with North Korea over its illegal nuclear weapons program, just days after U.S. President Donald Trump warned the same assembly of a possible military response to Pyongyang's provocations.

Lavrov added that a collapse of the Iran nuclear deal would give North Korea little incentive to drop its nuclear programme in return for sanctions relief.

In his address to the UN, Trump referred to sanctions the U.S. has levied on the Latin American country and said he was "prepared to take further action". He was using an abbreviation for the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Lavrov said that it was "unacceptable to incite to riots. for the sake of the so-called democratization of Venezuela".
