The precedent for investigations into the use of private email was established by these same Republicans when they went after Hillary Clinton for her use of a personal email server.

Kushner's lawyer said he sent "fewer than 100 emails" from that private account.

Most of the messages, Lowell said, included "forwarded news articles or political commentary".

Simultaneously, the House intelligence committee's leading members have accused the White House of refusing to work with the panel, and threatened to hold public hearings on the lack of cooperation from the DoJ on documents that show the FBI's connection with the British intelligence agent who assembled a dossier on Trump's alleged connections with Russian Federation.

The use of private accounts can put official records beyond the reach of journalists, lawmakers, and others who seek publicly-available information.

Attacking former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for using her personal email account to handle official government business when she was secretary of state became one of the favorite talking points for President Donald Trump and his cronies during the vicious election cycle previous year.

Intel 8th-Gen Core processors launched

Abbe Lowell, Kushner's attorney, released an official statement clarifying Kushner's email practices. The account was set up during the transition period. In some cases, Priebus and Bannon used private email accounts as well to communicate with Kushner and others.

Whether the use of the private server for emails is illegal or not, the correspondence will likely be of interest to the ongoing investigations into the last election.

To top off the blatant hypocrisy, there is the fact that using private emails like this is a way for government officials to get around the Presidential Records Act, which requires any presidential-related documents to be preserved.

The email account was set up in December, Politico reported, noting that Kushner also uses an official White House email account. Trump routinely said that Clinton should be jailed for using a personal email system to carry out her official duties.

In response to the findings, American Oversight executive director Austin Evers said it was staggering to see such email abuse from members of administration who spent most of the election condemning Hillary Clinton's private email scandal.
