Fire Prevention Week: In a fire, seconds could save your life

During Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Sunday to Saturday, Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services (CKFES) and the Chatham Kent Public Health Unit (CKPHU) will be encouraging residents to take action to reduce the risk of house fires. It will serve to house the bulk of the fire department's fleet and vehicles and will house the everyday administrative operation of the department along with a firefighter crew. The parade will cross the Williamstown Bridge into Marietta. According to the NFPA, "The fire killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres".

Highland-Pierron Fire Department has expanded its fire prevention efforts to better protect those in their fire district. The fire started a reformation around the country and the promulgation of fire safety codes. It aims to include everything from having a plan when a fire happens, knowing the importance of having working smoke alarms and knowing common types of fires during different seasons.

The observance will include hanging banners around the city at the Traffic Circle, Division and Route 95, East and Camden and Seventh and Park.

The Banff Fire Hall will also host an open house and free pancake breakfast on October 14 from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m.at the Fire Hall. They can also answer other fire questions you may have.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) today kicks off National Fire Prevention Week 2017.
