Neymar has been confirmed as one of the first five players on the 30-man Ballon d'Or shortlist for the 2017 award.

Others in the shortlist are Italy's Leonardo Bonucci, Frances's Karim Benzema, former African footballer of the Year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Edison Cavani and Matts Hummels.

The very first name to come out was that of Paris Saint-Germain's €222m superstar Neymar, quickly followed by Real Madrid midfield maestro Luka Modric.

Barcelona's Luis Suarez, who scored 37 goals in all competitions for his side last season, has also been picked in the elite list while Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has also got a node after scoring 43 times in 37 appearances for the club to help them qualify for the Champions League.

Spain global and Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is the third Spaniard on the list - only France (Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, Griezmann and N'Golo Kane) have more.

Ronaldo is the favourite to win the award, after his 10 goals across the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final of last season's Champions League which led Real Madrid to an historic back-to-back triumph.

However, France Football in September 2016 announced that it had ended its deal with FIFA over the Ballon d'Or.

Real Madrid star, Isco, PSG wonder kid Kylian Mbappe and Chelsea's Eden Hazard have all been included in the final shortlist for the 2017 Ballon d'Or. In fact, 11 of the players nominated for this prestigious award play their football in Spain.

From winning Ballon d'Ors to clinching the historic UEFA Euro with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo is a player, who has accomplished everything the world of football has to offer in club and country both.
