Is the India-China Border Heating Up Again?

Continuing diplomatic efforts about the North East border, China yesterday expressed readiness to jointly maintain peace along the border areas with India and said Nathu La, the frontier post visited by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was the "best witness" to the UK-China treaty of 1890.

Defence Minister stressed on the fact that IAF should focus on "Make-in-India" in Force.

At this point, some Indian soldiers tried to come to the aid of their Chinese counterparts but Sitharaman asked them to let the PLA men find the meaning on their own.

The Defense Minister stood face-to-face and took a class of Chinese soldiers. she met Chinese soldiers on the border and then greeted them.

A video tweeted from the official Twitter handle of Defence Minister's office shows Sitharaman interacting with a Chinese officer who introduces her to his colleagues. She interacted with Indian and Chinese army officials at Nathu La.

The Gobal Times said that China welcomed Sitharaman's greeting and hoped the gesture is also welcomed by Indians and added that her charm might help break the ice between Chinese and Indian public opinion.

She visited the area amid reports that China strengthened its military presence at the Doklam Plateau and even started widening an existing road - around 12 km from the area of the conflict. "Both countries should control the risks", the daily opined.
