Marouane Fellaini has reported back to Manchester United's Carrington training complex to receive treatment on the knee injury suffered on worldwide duty with Belgium.

Belgium qualified for the World Cup finals in Russian Federation ahead of this latest pair of qualifying games and Lukaku missed the weekend win over Bosnia with an ankle injury.

United sit in second place on the table, behind rivals Manchester City on goal difference.

Although the 29-year-old left the Grbavica Stadium in Sarajevo without the use of crutches following Belgium's 4-3 win, coach Roberto Martinez offered a sombre assessment of the player's condition.

"I have not had any communication with Jose Mourinho on the subject of Marouane", Martinez said, per the Daily Mirror.

The precise timeframe on his return to action is not yet clear but he could be out for weeks which would see him miss games with Huddersfield and Tottenham in the Premier League and Benfica in the Champions League.

Despite having endured an underwhelming first four seasons at United, Fellaini has proven himself to be invaluable to the club with Mourinho favouring height.

May signals foreign minister Johnson could be sacked
The Telegraph quoted one backer of Mr Johnson as saying that there was a "stench of death" emanating from Downing Street . Allies of Boris Johnson has said he will " just say no " if Theresa May tries to sack or move him from the Foreign Office.

"It was a very unfortunate injury for Marouane Fellaini", he said.

Manchester United have a huge game at Liverpool this weekend and Mourinho does not want any risks taking on a nothing game, but is not getting involved with the decision.

"I don't think the state of the pitch played any part and it was just a collision between two strong players who wanted to win the ball".

It seems very likely that Ander Herrera will play for Manchester United alongside Nemanja Matic at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.

The Portuguese manager is already without Paul Pogba, who is a long-term absentee while Michael Carrick also remains sidelined with a knock.

No wonder Manchester United fans rate Marouane Fellaini so highly!
