Major League Baseball playoffs: Three takeaways from Dodgers' NLDS-clinching win over Diamondbacks

But our baseball staff at The Comeback originally meant to post some bold predictions before the MLB postseason began.

Twice Corbin, who finished 14-13 with a 4.03 ERA, faced the Dodgers in the regular season, both times in Los Angeles.

The announcement came on the heels of the Dodgers' 9-5 win over the Diamondbacks in Game 1 of the NLDS, when Kershaw's velocity and breaking pitches started to noticeably deteriorate by the seventh inning.

Many more Diamondbacks had successful seasons and figure to be part of the core group going forward. The Dodgers have advanced to their fifth NLCS in the last 10 years.

Fans who tuned in to see Game 3 of the NL Division Series instead ended up watching a Cody Bellinger highlight video. The Dodgers will host the victor of the Cubs vs Nationals series in which the Cubs now lead 2-1 after a win on Monday. The Diamondbacks put only one runner on base in those four innings and managed to get only two balls out of the infield.

In the second year of a $206.5 million, six-year contract, Greinke was 1-2 with a 3.65 ERA in four starts against Los Angeles this year.

But D-Backs starter Robbie Ray couldn't hold that lead very long, largely because he couldn't throw strikes. All followed by a 10 pitch at-bat to Yasiel Puig forced Greinke to throw 29 pitches in the first inning. Greinke loaded the bases in the third via a pair of walks and a Turner single. But those mistakes finally caught up with him in the fourth.

He then repeated "Puerto Rico", before switching to his usual accent to laughingly add: "And we also love Puerto Rico ". First lady Melania Trump said her "heart and prayers" are being sent to the victims and those affected.

The Dodgers didn't greet their old teammate with hugs and handshakes, instead they greeted him with hits and home runs, as Bellinger seemingly did it all for the Boys in Blue on Monday night.

Now the pitching. Yu Darvish was exactly as advertised when the Dodgers made this trade back in July. The good thing for the Dodgers is that they don't have to worry about where the game will be played. "Tonight is the most important one", he said, prior to Game 3.

Is the embattled Cuban outfielder the best player for the Dodgers so far?

Led by a big Japanese right-hander and a rookie from just down the road, the Los Angeles Dodgers are headed back to the NL Championship Series. Much like his performance in the Dodgers game two win, Maeda was impressive again.

Los Angeles prevailed in Game 2 of the series by a count of 8-5 at home Saturday night.

After a 20-pitch fifth, by far his most laborious inning of the night, Darvish's pitch count was at 68 when Roberts let him bat with one out and a man on third in the top of the sixth, but after almost hitting Walker once (a review confirmed the call that it was a foul ball), he did hit him on the very next pitch, which produced a scary moment.

With the D-Backs facing elimination, Monday's Game 3 is obviously extremely important. That, of course, is meaningless unless Arizona wins Monday. It's definitely worth staying up late to watch.
