Prince Harry launching mental health campaign for British soldiers

Just over half (51 percent) of those asked said it was now easy to speak about mental health.

The joint initiative between the MoD and the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry comes days after the Foundation announced a £2 million investment in a start-up company providing digital support to youngsters anxious about their mental health.

He, together with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reconfirmed their commitment to the issue of mental health with the announcement of a £2m investment to establish a new start-up to support innovative mental health digital tools.

"In many ways I have learned more about the sacrifices our servicemen and women make for us all since I left the army and continued my work with the Invictus Games", he added.

The new partnership will see the Royal Foundation, established by Harry, his elder brother Prince William and William's wife Kate to support their chosen charities, provide advice and resources to the MoD to raise awareness of good mental health and improve training, education and information sharing.

"Having a step back from day-to-day army life has allowed me to think carefully about how we prepare, support, and care for those who wear the uniform".

"She had seen that at the core of adult issues like addiction and family breakdown, unresolved childhood mental health issues were often part of the problem". "We should have the same approach to conditioning for our mental health too".

Experts noted, the publicity arising from initiatives including the the London Marathon and Harry's interview about his own mental health had inspired more men to come forward and start a conversation about their difficulties.

However, Prince William acknowledged the fact that there's still a lot that needs to be done since three quarters of the recorded suicides in the United Kingdom are of men. But I think it all starts at home.

"Now is the flawless moment for The Royal Foundation to help kick-start the creation of impactful new tools that will help young people have conversations about their mental health and find the support they need, when they need it". "If you can't have a conversation with your loved ones, there's no way you're going to go to HR at work", he said.

"You'd struggle to find a parent out there who wouldn't want the well-being of their child to be taken care of at school", Prince William said Friday at Imperial College in London.
