Yogi government plans 100-mt-tall Lord Ram statue in Ayodhya

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is planning to install a grand statue of Lord Ram in a warrior pose on the River Saryu in Ayodhya, as part of a plan to put the temple town on the religious tourism map.

Apart from the statue, other structures of public utility will also be built in the town.

Summary: VARANASI: Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik said on Tuesday that no decision has been taken so far to build a statue of Lord Rama in Ayodhya "But, I believe and you can imagine whoever goes to Ayodhya wishes to see Lord Rama".

A government communique said that the statue will be built after securing permission from the National Green Tribunal.

After a presentation by Tourism Principal Secretary, Awanish Awasthi, the proposal has been sent to Governor Ram Naik.

He said the celebrations on Diwali are meant to promote Ayodhya as a tourist place. However, the proposal has not been sent to NGT for approval.

On the programme list for October 18, the Express said, are: a Deepotsav programme where 1.71 lakh earthen lamps will be lit at Ram ki Paidi, about 2 km from the disputed Babri Masjid site; a heritage walk through Ayodhya; a Shobha Yatra to showcase the arrival of Lord Ram to Ayodhya and a symbolic "rajyabhishek" (coronation).

An aarti ritual would also be held at the new ghat along with a laser show. UP Governor Ram Naik will also attend, as will union Tourism Minister KJ Alphonse and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma."Ayodhya has its importance, we can not neglect that".

The Union tourism ministry has sanctioned Rs 133.70 crore for making Ayodhya a tourism hub. The riots also helped the BJP gain national prominence. Artists from Indonesia and Thailand will perform a Ram Leela function. A Ram Katha gallery, an auditorium in Digambar Akhada are also part government's plan. The two leaders discussed various tourism-related projects in the northern state, including construction of Ramayana museum for which the Centre has allocated a fund of Rs 154 crore, a PTI report had said.
