Gunfight in Hajin, two militants, two soldiers killed

It was the first casualty suffered by IAF during counter militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The highly trained Garud commandos of IAF also accompanied the army unit during the anti-militancy operation, defence spokesman in Srinagar Colonel Rajesh Kalia said. The Garud personnel were operating with the army for operational experience.

As per reports, the security forces had cordoned off Gatipora village after receiving inputs of terrorists present in the area.

"After the encounter, we recovered two bodies- one was a local terrorist, other was a Pakistani national named Ali alias Abu Mas". As per the report by the Indian Express, over a dozen top leaders of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba and JeM have been killed by security forces since January.

According to reports, mobile internet service was suspended to maintain law and order situation following the encounter.

Two commandos of the Indian Air Force elite Garud commando unit and two militants were killed on Wednesday in a gun battle in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Two Air force jawans were also killed in the gunfight.

"As the Forces were closing in, the hiding militants fired upon them around 5 am, resulting in injuries to three personnel of Garud Commando Force". Recently Khalid carried out attack on the special police officer and his seven-year-old son who was killed at Handwara.

Police sources told Rising Kashmir that the casualities took place after militants attacked the forces when they a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was underway in Paribal Rakhi Hajin area.
