Aarushi-Hemraj murder case: Allahabad HC acquits Rajesh, Nupur Talwar

On Thursday afternoon, the Allahabad High Court set aside CBI's court order and acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in Aarushi Talwar murder case.

The verdict ends a nine-year ordeal of the Noida-based dentist couple who were found guilty by a Ghaziabad CBI court on November 26, 2013 and were serving a life sentence in Dasna jail.

According to the news agency ANI, the Allahabad High Court was of the view that as per circumstances and evidence on record, Rajesh and Nupur Talwar can't be held guilty.

Aarushi Talwar was found with her throat slit in her Noida residence on May 2008.

Later in 2012, his wife Nupur surrendered before a Ghaziabad court before trial and was also sent to Dasna Jail.

Jail sources said the couple were likely to walk free tomorrow. The couple were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013 for murdering their daughter Aarushi and the domestic help Hemraj.

Although the court verdict has put an end to an nearly a decade long legal process, several people on Twitter asked the most pressing question of 'who killed Aarushi?' Some of them even expressed concern if the Aarushi murder case will ever be untangled?

The Uttar Pradesh Police accused Rajesh Talwar of killing his daughter in a fit of rage after he allegedly found Aarushi in a compromising situation with Hemraj. The body of the family's domestic help, Hemraj, who was initially suspected of her murder, was found in a pool of blood on the terrace of the flat the following day.

After the state police failed to crack the case, the then UP chief minister Mayawati recommended a CBI probe to resolve the murder mystery.
