The Arsenal pair, whose deals at the Emirates expire in the summer, are both yet to sign new contracts with the club and as a result could leave for nothing at the end of the season.

It's expected Sanchez will leave Arsenal at the end of the season, which will lead to a scramble to sign the forward.

'I always said the fact that we didn't find an agreement previous year doesn't mean the player will necessarily leave.

"Both players are happy here".

Sanchez has won two FA Cup crowns in three seasons during his Gunners career.

"Talks are going well", Wenger said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Watford. "It is not happening at the moment" - and Merson's return to football with fourth-tier Welsh club Caerau of Maesteg - "We talk about professional football here".

In the short term, Sanchez has to deal with the disappointment of Chile's failure to qualify for the World Cup, following their 3-0 midweek loss in Brazil.

Arsene Wenger has cast doubt over whether Alexis Sanchez will be involved for their Premier League clash against Watford this weekend, after the Chile worldwide received "special treatment" on global duty. I hope the situation can be turned around. I want what is best for him wherever he goes.

He could not guide his country to World Cup qualification, and Wenger admits he does not know the effect it will have on the player.

Arsenal fans already upset at Sanchez failing to commit himself to the club are now even more frustrated following Chile's World Cup exit. "I believe that Jack is in the best form that I have seen him for a long time".

"The message from Wenger to Sanchez today was: "Give me until January and then you can go", Keown told the Daily Mail.
